Occasionally you'll be asked by our support team to forward us a copy of an email you have received.
This is usually because we need to analyse the message trace headers which tell us exactly where that message has been.
Fortunately the processes for doing this is quite simple:
Outlook 2013/2016
There are multiple ways to do this:
- Create a new email
- Drag & drop the email you'd like to attach onto the new email.
- The email will be automatically attached, and it's now ready to send
Or:
- Select the email/s you'd like to forward and press Ctrl-Alt-F
- This will create a new email with the message/s already attached
Or:
- Open the message you want to forward in its own window (Double click on it)
- Select the MESSAGE option in the ribbon (located at the top of the screen)
- Click More (or the More Respond Actions icon if only that is visible) in the Respond section
- Select Forward as Attachment from the menu that appears.
- The email will then be ready to forward.
Mac mail
- Open the message you want to forward.
- Under the ‘View’ menu, select ‘Message’ > ‘Long headers’ (for OS X 10.2, Jaguar it is ‘View’ > ‘Show all headers’.)
- Click ‘Forward’
- This will create a new email with the message already attached
Office 365 Webmail
The process for sending message headers if you only use webmail is a little more involved:
- Open notepad
- Go to webmail
- Select the email you'd like to forward
- Go to “…”
- Go to “View message source”
- Copy the contents into the notepad window
- Save the document and specify the .eml extension (you may need to choose "all filetypes" and then manually append .eml onto your filename when saving
- Create a new message in webmail and attach the .eml file from your computer
Alternatively, the drag and drop method in the Outlook section should also work.
